REPORT OF ACTIONS AND INITIATIVES RELATED TO TRANSPORT AUTOMATION AND OTHER TRANSITIONS
WE-TRANSFORM is an EU-funded coordination and support action aiming to apply a participatory approach, using Collective Intelligence (CI) to generate an evidence-based and action-oriented agenda to research, formulate and prioritize the challenges connected to the effects of automation on the transport labour market, on future working conditions and on skills requirements. The first technical activity of the project is to collect and analyze research actions and initiatives implemented by national, EU, and non-EU projects, but also in other countries from all over the world, related to transport automation for all modes of transport and sectors (both passenger and freight), and to other automation-driven transitions (e.g., manufacturing, construction, etc.). The objective of this deliverable is twofold. Firstly, to outline a comprehensive list of research projects and initiatives related to automation in transport and selected other sectors. A similar list has been devised for operational systems. Selected transitions/innovations are presented as best practices. Secondly, to present the results from the state-of-the-art review performed on a vast number of research efforts (articles) and other documents related to the effects and impacts of digitalization and automation on the workforce using the Artificial Intelligence tool developed for this purpose.
The high-level objective of WE-TRANSFORM is to promote collectively prioritized themes on the future of jobs and working conditions across all existing and evolving transport modes by considering the digitalization and automation processes that are occurring and are expected to occur within the transport sector. In doing so, WE-TRANSFORM addresses the main concern raised by the EC’s White Paper (2011): “labour and skill shortages will become a serious concern for transport in the future. It will be important to align the competitiveness and the social agenda, building on social dialogue, in order to prevent social conflicts, which have proved to cause significant economic losses”.
Abstract:
The deliverable provides a comprehensive list of research projects and initiatives related to automation in transport and selected other sectors. A similar list has been devised for operational systems. Selected transitions/innovations are presented as best practices.
Furthermore, it presents the results from the state-of-the-art review performed on a vast number of research efforts (articles) and other documents related to the effects and impacts of digitalization and automation on the workforce using the Artificial Intelligence tool developed for this purpose.
